(Columbus, June 30, 2017) — Grammy Award-winning bass guitarist, songwriter and singer Danyel Morgan will perform Thursday, July 6 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the SMG-managed Greater Columbus Convention Center (GCCC) Discovery Café.
A native of Columbus and a self-taught bassist, Morgan was inspired by Al Green and Stanley Clarke and began performing with gospel groups at age 5. In 2000, Morgan began playing and singing with Robert Randolph & The Family Band. Featuring his lyrics and vocals on “Blind Boy of Alabama,” the song won a Grammy Award in 2003. “Squeeze,” which is featured in a video game, was nominated for a Grammy the following year and the band performed at the awards ceremony.
Morgan has toured the United States and Europe when Robert Randolph & The Family Band joined artists such as Dave Matthews, Carlos Santana, Eric Clapton, The Neptunes, The Roots, John Mayer and others in concert.
Morgan is currently working on his own solo material.
Live at Lunch events are free of charge to attend and will be held outdoors or indoors, depending on weather conditions.
Guests may purchase lunch to enjoy during the performances at Discovery Café, which is located near the Arnold Plaza, just inside the facility’s west entrance along High Street. Discovery Café is composed of Homegrown Market, Columbus Grille, Crimson Cup and CBUS Tap Room and is operated by the GCCC’s exclusive caterer, Levy. Ample seating is available.
The GCCC plans to present Live at Lunch events on the first Thursday of every month.
