(Columbus, June 30, 2017) — A record-setting number of teams will venture to the SMG-managed Greater Columbus Convention Center for the return of the USA Volleyball Boys’ Junior National Championships from July 1-7.
“We’re very excited to be back and love the new renovation,” said Barbara Eisenbeis, event director for USA Volleyball. “We have a record number of 507 teams, compared to 471 teams when we were here in 2015. We really get a good pick up in Columbus because so many teams can drive in.”
More than 5,000 boys ages 12 to 18 from throughout the United States as well as Canada, Guam and Puerto Rico will be playing in Exhibit Halls A-D. They will be joined by more than 10,000 spectators throughout the tournament.
USA Volleyball is the governing body for volleyball in this country.
“We welcome USA Volleyball as the first event in our newly expanded Exhibit Hall D,” said Greater Columbus Convention Center Assistant General Manager Ryan Thorpe. “The 4th of July is a great time to be in Columbus.”
As part of the GCCC’s $140 million expansion and renovation, nearly 37,000 square feet of exhibit space has been added that USA Volleyball will be the first client to utilize.
“As the Volleyball Capital of the Midwest, we are thrilled to once again host a record number of teams at the USA Volleyball Boys’ Junior National Championship,” said Greater Columbus Sports Commission Executive Director Linda Shetina Logan. “We are proud of our partnership with USA Volleyball and look forward to hosting many more events in the years to come.”
