PUBLIC INVITED TO EXPLORE 132nd ANNUAL STAMPSHOW 2018 & PREMIERE OF FLAVORED NATION

Who:  American Philatelic Society (APS)

What: StampShow 2018/National Topical Stamp Show, with Here Be Dragons theme on August 9, Nature on August 10, Technology of Space and Airmail on August 11, and Legends and Lore on August 12. This is the first time the APS and the American Topical Association have combined to host the show as the country’s two largest philatelic associations.

When: August 9-11, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., August 12, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Where: Greater Columbus Convention Center Exhibit Hall B

Why: 132nd Annual Convention of the APS will attract stamp collectors, exhibitors, historians and general public to explore, increase knowledge about stamps and buy and exchange stamps.

How: The show will feature more than 130 dealers, 175 displays totaling more than 16,000 pages, philatelic societies, live auctions, about 150 meetings and seminars, first-day issue ceremonies of new stamps, a youth area, actors in costume roaming the exhibit hall to interact with fans, and historic marvels like the 1918 Inverted Jenny stamp — considered the most famous U.S. stamp — depicting a Curtiss Jenny biplane unintentionally portrayed upside down. Correspondence sent in May 1789 by U.S. President George Washington will be on display. The United States Dragon First Day Ceremony unveiling of four new stamps will be at noon on August 9, followed at 2 p.m. by the United Nations World Heritage Pre-Launch Ceremony.

What: Flavored Nation, a taste of every state

When: August 11-12, 2018 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Where: Greater Columbus Convention Center Exhibit Hall A

Why: Debut of a culinary gathering featuring an iconic dish from each of the 50 states prepared by chefs from throughout the country and central Ohio.

How: Guests can sample selections representing cuisine from throughout the country

Admission: $35 in advance at www.flavorednation.com and $45 at the door.  Children younger than age 5 are admitted free. Tickets include 10 tastings. Additional tasting tickets are available for purchase during the event.
