MORE THAN 6,500 ANIME FANS TO GATHER AT MATSURICON THIS WEEKEND

 Who:  Matsuricon, annual Japanese pop culture event

What:  Matsuricon 2018

When: August 24-26, 2018

Where: Greater Columbus Convention Center and Hyatt Regency Columbus

Why: “Matsuri” means “festival” in Japanese. This annual festival focuses on Japanese animation (anime), Japanese graphic novels (manga) and video games to elevate awareness of Japanese pop culture via events, special guest speakers and cultural presentations. The event has grown significantly from 298 paying members attending the 2006 Matsuricon to more than 6,500 participants expected in 2018.

How: Activities include collectible card games, dances, live events, photo shoots, tabletop games, video events, video shoots, voice actors, two escape rooms, the Friday night Matsuricon Formal Ball, blood drive on Friday and Saturday, Matsuricon Idol competition and cosplay (costumed play). Hours of registration are August 24 through 10 p.m., August 25 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on August 26. Gaming events continue until 2 a.m. on August 24 and August 25, and until 4 p.m. August 26.
